Even Glitter

The mailboxes in our neighborhood are wearing Santa hats. Giant inflatable snowmen are standing guard over wooden nativity scenes. And everyone I know seems to be a little more buoyant than usual. The Spirit of Christmas never stops communicating “I love you!”  I believe, with my whole heart, that Jesus is absolutely without a doubt, "the reason for the season.” He alone is the focus of the celebration and EVERYONE is invited to join that celebration!

Christmas should bring together all people including the lovers of inflatable snowmen, Santa hats, and even those who love glitter. (Glitter stresses Joel out, but he’s working through it.) Our Savior was born in a stable and placed in a feeding trough. Nothing fancy for sure, but what a celebration marked the occasion! God’s angel stood among [the shepherds] and God’s glory blazed around them. Then, as if that wasn’t enough, the angel was joined by a huge angelic choir singing God’s praises!

Christmas has always included the unusual. Jesus of the manger grew up and confirmed that.

“This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted.” - John 3:16-17 (The Message)
