Giving Tuesday

About a week ago my friend, Gretchen, asked me, “What are you doing for #GivingTuesday?” My bewildered look followed by a blank stare gave away my knowledge void about #GivingTuesday. But, thanks to Gretchen, I now know what #GivingTuesday is-- and I love the blessings it makes possible for many all over the globe! Last year more than $168 million dollars was given by generous people and businesses who wanted to help those in need! #GivingTuesday has been around only since 2012 when the 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation established this international day of giving on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving. This year Tuesday, November 28th is the day for a beautiful response to the commercialization and consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Joel, my super husband, now is serving as a Board Chairman for three non-profits; Slingshot (an incubator for micro churches creating more effective ministry for the spiritually marginalized), Community Resource Network (a relationship and training based unifier of faith communities to create more effective ministry to marginalized and homeless families), and The Central Florida Commission on Homelessness  (partnering with a variety of agencies striving to make homelessness in Central Florida rare, brief and one time.)  If God puts on your heart to give a gift to help meet the needs of those who have captured Joel’s and my hearts that’s great. You can click on any of the three links above to join us in giving to our favorite charities. That said, if God has given you the heart to help folks whose needs are different from those He has put on our hearts to help, that's great, too!  There are so many wonderful charitable organizations that can put your donation to great use! You can find many of them on the #GivingTuesday website. Give to a charity that touches your heart! They all make a positive difference in this world!

Here’s a bit of good news no matter what you decide to do...when your friend asks you what you are doing for #GivingTuesday you at least will know what #GivingTuesday is!

This is my last gift to you, this example of a way of life: a life of hard work, a life of helping the weak, a life that echoes every day those words of Jesus our King, who said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” - Acts 20:35 (VOICE)
